The Keggen family business began in 1886 when Samuel Keggen (1855–1916), son of William and Kath (née Gawne) Keggen of The Howe, Port St Mary, started his own business after serving his apprenticeship as a joiner. It is unclear whether funeral directing formed part of the business at that time. The business later passed to his son, Thomas Samuel Keggen (1886–1960), who we know was working as a funeral director, then to his son James Samuel Keggen (1913–1992), and later to James Michael Keggen. Following his semi-retirement, the business was passed to the next generation in 2019, continuing the family tradition.
